Colour Conversations

Colour Conversations III & IV

2021 . Colour Conversations is a series of unique mouth blown glass vases about how colours speak with each other. It reflects on the interaction of colour through its transparent quality and intensity of tones and the uncontrolled process of mouth blown glass, inspired by Joseph Albers studies. Conversations were open, using two distinct colour hues in different glass materialities on each piece. Intentions were set by placing glass pigments in a certain way. The very same dark red pigments gain vibrance with the turquoise blue but when applied next to the rosish glass powder it becomes lighter - perception changes depending on the colour interaction. The result is a series of handmade fluid shapes which showcase the transparency and layering of colour interactions on mouth blown glass vases. Pieces were made in collaboration with glassblower Arlindo and Noel, Masters with more than 30 years of experience, at Cencal in Marinha Grande, a city in Portugal known for glass production since the XVIII century. Special thanks to Cencal, Joana Silva, Eduardo, Arlindo and Noel.
