Mex

2017 . Mex is a modular system of pavement for temporary events on the beach, made of recycled mussels. In Galicia, Spain, around 300 000 tones of mussels are produced every year, only for the canning industry. There are no systematic solutions for the re-use of the shells, so the purpose lied on the material cycle, by bringing back the shells to the seascape with a biodegradable binder, bio resin  - resulting on a modular pavement system for temporary use in events at the beach. I’ve looked into the seashells’ properties: their heat resistance, rigidity, hardness, resistance to compression, flexibility and impact. After being used, the modules can be recycled as sand dune stabilizers. Project made with the cooperation of Abonomar.
