Narrative & Process

Broot Collection: Limestone x Mouth-Blown Glass

Process of a new collection of furniture and collectible objects designed by Catarina Nogueira Pacheco. Broot Dialogues is born of this symbiosis between landscapes and crafts, an homage to the excellence of Portuguese production, and a way of preserving the value of art and craftsmanship.

Emerging from the territory of natural stone, this moment reinforces the importance of traditional materials and the artisanal techniques of transformation rooted in a pre-industrial era.
Broot project’s promotion and coordination led by Assimagra, and production management by Olivah alongside curatorial direction by Gisella Tortoriello, the initiative is also supported through Prr funding under the Green Agenda Sustainable Stoneby Portugal.

Limestone
From the Central-West region comes limestone: firm and resilient.

Material
Lacking open fractures, cavities, foliation or schistosity, it appears in a cream-grey to bluish tone, with a coarse calciclastic structure, marked bioclastic composition, and only slight oolitic elements. Sculpted by the hands of skilled artisans in Central Portugal.

Mouth-blown glass
At around 1,200 degrees, blown glass takes shape: recyclable and sustainable.

Material
Combining natural and renewable raw materials, the art of blown glass in Leiria’s region transcends transformation alone. Guided by the hands of skilled glassmakers, molten matter is shaped into objects that embody both craftsmanship and tradition.
